Ever wondered what your sleeping position says about you and your personality? Check out our unofficial personality assessment of what your sleeping position says about you!

Sleeping Positions

Whilst deep in the depths of REM sleep, your body will naturally take the form of the position most comfortable to you. What you might not be thinking however, is what does the position you take say about you and your personality?

At Dial-a-Mattress, your friendly supplier of mattresses and bed frames in Shropshire, we really care about you getting the most out of your sleep.

Scientists have conducted many controlled experiments on what constitutes a good night's sleep but the position of the sleeper is sometimes overlooked. Whilst what each sleeping position actually means is purely theoretical, there are some commonly acknowledged personality traits shared by certain sleepers of certain positions.

Therefore, let’s take a look at some of the most popular positions and showcase what they might say about you.

The Famous Log Position

It is estimated only 15% of people in the UK sleep in the log position. The log position, so named because your body closely resembles that of an inanimate log, has garnered quite a few different interpretations.

A very popular interpretation is that people who sleep in the log position are usually healthier as well as being generally carefree. A lot of scientists have advised that people who sleep in the log position get the best night sleep because of it’s incredible practicality, hence why sleepers of this position are usually considered happy and outgoing.

Having said this, assuming this position does not always garner such positive personality traits. Sleepers who take the log position can sometimes be seen as gullible.

The Yearner

The yearner position is where sleepers lie on their back with their arms stretched out as if they are trying to grab something invisible. Around 13% of people assume this position when they are trying to go to sleep.

Apparently if this is your preferred sleeping position, this means you are quite a complex and diverse character.

Starfishing

The only sleeping position that shares its name with sea stars, the true mattress hogger position is popular with both men and women. If you adopt this position this connotes a certain degree of flexibility regarding your character and personality.

The Fetal Position

From a position which is popular with both men and women to a position which is popular with mainly women. More than double the number of women adopt this position compared to men.

The position is called so as the sleeper curls up into a ball tucking their knees under their chin and into their chest, just like the position babies take in the womb. Over 40% of people sleep in this position, making it clearly one of the most popular sleeping positions in the UK.

Someone who takes this position might showcase elements of shyness, introversion and a general softer persona.

The Soldier Stance

Leading on from a position particularly popular with a certain gender, we have another one. The soldier stance is, unsurprisingly, popular with men. We say unsurprising as this position can appear quite masculine and strong.

Despite the stance seeming quite authoritative, people who adopt this stance are normally quieter and more reserved people.

The Pillow Hugger

Similar to the fetal position, this position involves sleeping with your knees up whilst simultaneously hugging a pillow or, whatever you happen to get your hands on.

Exactly when this position means, might not be as surprising as say the soldier stance, it normally means you are quite an affectionate and loving person.
