More and more people in the UK are starting to question the latest technology in mattresses, the Latex Mattress. So what are they? What makes them so unique? And should we all be rushing to replace our old mattresses with latex?

What Are Latex Mattresses?

Latex mattresses are made using the natural resins that are produced by the rubber tree. Being 100% natural means that the latex is able to breathe rather than holding on to heat and smells.
Typically full latex mattresses are expensive, meaning latex is often used to top another style of mattresses such as pocket sprung or foam mattresses.

What Are The Benefits Of A Latex Mattress?

There are five main benefits to investing in a latex mattress. Primarily the benefits are health-related, something that more people need to focus on in recent times.
Pain Relieving - The first benefit is the pain-relieving properties that the latex has to offer. The cushioning and cooling support that the latex offers helps to cradle certain areas of the body, including your back and shoulders, amongst other joints. This helps to reduce the pressure on them while you sleep, allowing them to completely relax. The natural elasticity helps to promote a healthy spine alignment, allowing you to wake up free from neck and back pain that other mattresses may leave you with.
Hypoallergenic and Low Maintenance - We often say that if you have allergies, if your allergies are feeling worse than normal while in bed, your mattress may need a good clean. This is because, on standard mattresses microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and viruses collect on the surface (and just under the surface).
Latex is a naturally hypoallergenic product. Meaning that it can help to repel these harmful organisms. While we still recommend regular cleaning to prolong its life, it will not need as frequent cleaning as you would normally do, particularly if you suffer from allergies.
Eco-Friendly - Latex is an all-natural product deriving from the sap of the rubber tree. The process used to remove the sap does not damage the tree and no chopping down is required. The process encourages tree growth, and trees can produce sap for over 30 years. The final product is also biodegradable, making it a good choice for the environment.
Breathable - Natural latex foam has an open-cell structure to permit constant airflow. The foam layers are also constructed with pinholes, enhancing breathability. Most importantly, chemicals found in synthetic materials retain body heat and natural latex mattresses contain little to no additives.
Durable - Natural latex mattresses are best known for their long-term comfort. High-quality latex mattresses have an average lifespan of 12 to 20 years—significantly longer than other types of mattresses. The resiliency of natural rubber is often credited for this longevity. A natural latex mattress effortlessly bounces back once the pressure is removed, maintaining its original shape over years of use.
