If you have recently purchased a new mattress in order to improve your quality of sleep but no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to improve your sleep, you need not worry, we have got you covered.

Surprisingly, there has been much research conducted into what constitutes a good night sleep. Some people believe the quality of your sleep is solely down to your environment. You might prefer to fall asleep with the sound of the TV slowly filling up the room or, you might not be able to get your recommended shut eye until you have absolute silence.

At Dial-A-Mattress, we pride ourselves on doing more for our customers than what is expected of a company that supplies high quality bed frames and mattresses from Shropshire. So let’s take a look at some useful tips and tricks you can use to maximise your sleep on your mattress this winter.

Controlling the Temperature

Whilst it will be harder to control the temperature of your room this winter and likewise in the summer, ensuring you are at the right temperature is very important to getting the perfect night sleep.

Some scientists cite that 18.3 degrees celsius is the ideal sleeping temperature. This is because our body temperature naturally drops during sleep so if your room is any hotter, you might get too hot and end up tossing and turning all night which is not what any of us want.

During the summer a simple technique to implement will be opening a window as oppressed to having a fan on all night. Not only does this help reduce the cost of your electric bills but it works more efficiently when cooling your room as the fan can end up producing more heat if it is left on all night.

Warming your room up in the winter might be a little more difficult. Some surprisingly easy techniques that shown rather promising results are putting your heating on for an hour before going to bed, investing in an underlayer blanket and wearing socks in bed.

Know Which Sleeping Position Works for You

Finding your ideal sleeping position can be a process of trial and error. Whether you are side on sleeper, a log sleeper or even starfish sleeper, this one depends solely on you.

However, if you aren't getting the best nights rest from your current sleeping position, you might want to consider changing it up. Sleep experts have found that sleeping on your side or back is more beneficial to your health as these positions offer more support to your spine enabling you to relax your back muscles.

In addition, sleeping on your side is the most popular position in the UK. Roughly 54% of people sleep on their side and they reported having high quality sleep. If you don’t currently sleep on your side, you might want to consider making the switch.

Establish a Routine

Research has found that having a bedtime routine significantly increases the chances of you having a good night sleep.

This is because a pre-sleep routine gets you mentally prepared for sleep as well as helping you to de-stress from all of the current day’s events.
