Here are some suggestions to make your bedroom set up for a perfect night’s sleep –

  • Block the Light - Don’t use electronic devices in bed such as tablets and mobile phones that emit blue light which disrupts sleep and harms melatonin levels. Melatonin is a natural hormone that regulates our sleep-wake cycles and is produced during the night which helps us sleep comfortably.
  • Keep the Temperature down – Temperature is another important factor when it comes to sleeping. Your body temperature naturally cools during sleep so striking the balance between not being too hot in bed and being warm enough is crucial.
  • Top quality mattress – The quality of your mattress can’t be underestimated. Industry statistics state that you should change your mattress at least every 7 years but we would also suggest doing this if it is showing wear and tear or you have started having uncomfortable nights and a lack of sleep over a period of time.
  • Get into a routine – Your routine before bedtime is just as crucial as actually going to bed. We would suggest starting to relax by lying down or sitting a comfortable position at least 30 minutes before bed to allow your body to wind down and get ready for sleep.
  • De-clutter your bedroom – A study by the National Sleep Foundation revealed that more than 60% of people surveyed said a clean bedroom was an important factor in getting a good night’s sleep. A tidy bedroom without clutter helps the mind to relax and rid yourself of the stresses of the day.
  • Keep the Pets Away – Your dog and cats sleep patterns will be vastly different than yours, plus their hair and dander can trigger mild allergies that can cause a blocked nose or sneezing that can disrupt your night so we would suggest keeping them out of the bedroom.
