We are seeing Latex mattresses mentioned more frequently. And with good reason. There are a number of great benefits to swapping out your old mattress for a new latex mattress. Here we shall address some of the benefits.

What Is A Latex Mattress?

You might first be wondering, what actually is a latex mattress?
A latex mattress combines latex foam with either springs or reflex foam to create a supportive and durable sleep surface. As latex is a natural product, some latex mattresses are often combined with other natural fillings to create the perfect natural mattress. Other types of foam are fully synthetic or blended (which is usually around 70% synthetic and 30% natural).

What Makes Latex Mattresses Great?

There are a number of benefits for investing in a latex mattress when it comes time to replace your old mattress.

Hypoallergenic And Antimicrobial
A number of us suffer from a range of allergies, whether it is from natural sources, such as hay fever, to more synthetic allergies, like soap powder allergies. The latex mattress is hypoallergenic, meaning that it is safe for most people to sleep on.
While some people keep on top of regular mattress care (such as regular cleaning and hoovering) not all of us can say the same. If a bed is not continually cleaned, microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses can easily collect on the surface of the mattress and cause mould, mildew, and dust mites. However, latex is naturally antimicrobial, meaning it repels harmful microorganisms, making latex an excellent choice for people with allergies or anyone too tight on time to regularly maintain their mattress.

Durable
The average mattress has a standard life expectancy of 8 years, or at least we advise that you exchange your mattress every 8 years due to the collection of cells and bacteria within the mattress, no matter how often you clean it. However, the antimicrobial properties and the natural latex means that the latex mattress can have a lifespan of between 12-20 years. Natural rubber is well known for its resilience, which makes it a great material for the latex mattress and means that it can maintain its original shape after years of abuse. Even if you have small children using it to bounce on, once in a while.

Breathable
Not all types of mattress are breathable, but the structure of a latex foam mattress helps to promote a constant airflow. The foam layers are also constructed with pinholes, enhancing breathability. Most importantly, chemicals found in synthetic materials retain body heat, meaning that natural latex mattresses are naturally cooler.

Pain Relieving
Similar to the comforts of a memory foam mattress, the latex foam allows for gentle cushioning and buoyant support, allowing for support for those who have back and joint pains. The foam can help to mould the mattress to your shape, offering support in all the right places. And the elasticity of the latex allows it to spring back into shape whenever you move around.
