Effects Of Sleep On Mental Health

We are looking at the impact of a good nights sleep on our mental health as part of this year's Mental Health Awareness Week

With this week being Mental Health Awareness Week (10-16th May 2021) we are looking at the impact of a good nights sleep on our mental health. We have all heard the age-old line "did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?" when we wake up in a bad mood. Well, there may just be some truth in this.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week was started by the Mental Health Foundation as a means of informing a greater number of people about mental health, and the impact that it can have not only on the individuals day to day life, but also the effect it has on their work, relationships and overall health.

Poor Sleep

Poor sleep can increase an individual's chances of struggling with their mental health. From depression and anxiety to eating disorders and more.
A good night sleep can help to improve the overall health and mental state of the brain as our bodies make repairs while we sleep. This means that the better nights sleep you get, the better you will feel overall the next day, both physically and mentally.

Nature

This year's Mental Health Awareness Week is focused on nature. Nature has long since been proven to have positive effects not only on your overall mental health but also on your quality of sleep. So this week, we recommend getting outside, into the great outdoors and spending some quality time in nature. Whether this is going to a nice stroll, sitting outside before bed, or even going camping. And after a rough night camping, you'll never be so happy to get back in your comfy bed too! Why not give it a try and see how it can make a difference to you.

The Right Mattress

Ensuring that you have the correct mattress is one step towards getting a good night sleep. An old or uncomfortable mattress will already have you battling without the added stress of mental health.
Remember to take into consideration whether you are a side, back or front sleeper as this can impact the mattress density that you require to get the best night sleep.
