Over the years there have been a number of studies completed, research compiled and articles published on the best mattresses. So should we be listening to these studies written by people we have never met? Or should we be listening to our own bodies for the best mattress choices?

Over the years there have been a number of studies completed, research compiled and articles published on the best mattresses. So should we be listening to these studies written by people we have never met? Or should we be listening to our own bodies for the best mattress choices?

Listening To Your Body

We have all slept on a mattress that isn't right for us. From hard hotel beds to soft over-used caravan beds, or that spare bed when you visit family. Every experience we have helps us to find the right mattress to help ease the ache and pains of the day. So there's nothing more accurate than listening to your own body.
If you have slept on a range of beds that have not been appropriate for your body, your body will let you know. You are looking for a bed that you can wake up in in the morning with no added aches and pains. If this isn't the case, the beds not right for you.

Listening To The Research

Much of the research that you hear about finding the perfect mattress talk about spine alignment and back support. The majority recommend a firmer mattress over something softer. While for a number of people this will work, for others it can resemble sleeping on the floor, thus causing more issues.
Listening to research in some cases can be beneficial, particularly if you suffer from specific back and alignment issues. These studies will be in place to help you to ease the effects of these issues and over time become more comfortable. However, it will also greatly depend on your own size and shape.
It is said that for people with higher body weight, a firmer mattress can still mould to the shape of your body, offering you that support. Whereas, those with a lower weight will require a softer mattress to enable it to mould to their shape. There are studies out there that discuss this. However, if this is a concern for you, you may want to speak to a clinical professional to ask for recommendations.

Finding The Right Comfort For You

Finding the perfect mattress can be a minefield. We highly recommend taking into consideration the beds you have staying in recently and working backwards from there. Consider the pressure of the most comfortable one for you and work from there.
Over time, the needs of your body will change. Meaning that the mattress you last purchased, might not be suitable for you this time around. So please remember to take that into consideration.
